Overview

Silicon Carbide (SiC) Grinding Paper Strips

What This Product Is

Pre-cut silicon carbide grinding paper strips for bench and hand grinding, supplied in packs with adhesive backing. The strip format is ready to use without cutting and mounts quickly for fast grit changes. The C-weight paper is durable and suited to wet or dry grinding.

Intended Use in Metallography

Used during planar and fine grinding, after sectioning, to flatten specimens and remove damage before polishing. Selected when:

  • Ready-cut strips are more convenient than rolls or discs
  • Fast grit changes on a strip grinder are wanted
  • High material removal with consistent cutting is required

Typical Applications

  • Metals and alloys
  • General metallographic specimens
  • Bench and strip-grinder operations

Beyond metallography, SiC grinding strips are also used in:

  • Petrography and geological sample grinding
  • Ceramics and composite materials
  • General materials preparation

When This Product Is NOT Ideal

  • When disc formats are required for a rotary platen
  • For high-durability work better served by rigid or diamond discs

Frequently Asked Questions

How are the strips sold and sized?

In packs of 100, measuring 11 × 3 inches, with adhesive backing.

Are the strips for wet or dry grinding?

Both. The C-weight paper holds up to wet grinding and can also be used dry.

Which grits are slurry-coated?

800, 1000, and 1200, for a more consistent fine finish before polishing.

Can SiC grinding strips be used outside metallography?

Yes. They are used in petrography and geological grinding, ceramics and composites, and general materials preparation wherever controlled hand or strip grinding is needed.
