Overview

Cutting Fluid

What This Product Is

A cutting fluid used with diamond and abrasive blades during sectioning. Added to the saw's coolant, it lubricates and cools the cut, flushes debris, and helps protect the blade and specimen — reducing heat damage to the cut face and extending blade life.

Intended Use in Metallography

Used at the sectioning step, in the saw's recirculating coolant, to cool and lubricate the cut. Selected when:

  • Cutting with diamond wafering or abrasive blades
  • Reducing heat and burning at the cut face
  • Extending blade life and improving cut quality

Typical Applications

  • Precision and abrasive sectioning of metals and mounted specimens
  • Cutting heat-sensitive materials where a cool cut matters
  • General saw coolant top-up and replacement

Beyond metallography, cutting fluid is also used in petrographic sectioning and other precision cutting where cooling and lubrication protect the blade and specimen.

When This Product Is NOT Ideal

  • For dry-cutting operations that do not use a coolant
  • Where a specimen or process requires a specific non-standard coolant chemistry

Where This Fits in the Preparation Process

  • Used during sectioning, before mounting and grinding

Compatibility and Equivalents

A sectioning cutting fluid / coolant additive for the same role served by the cutting fluids and coolant additives from Buehler, Struers, and Allied High Tech. Runs in the major low-speed and precision saws with no change to your process. It is a comparable product for the same step — not a branded or drop-in item.

Typically 20 to 40 percent lower in price.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does cutting fluid do?

It cools and lubricates the cut during sectioning, flushes away debris, and helps protect the blade and specimen — reducing heat damage and extending blade life.

How is it used?

It is added to the saw's recirculating coolant at the recommended concentration. Follow the dilution on the product for your saw.

Does it work with any blade?

It is intended for diamond and abrasive sectioning blades on standard low-speed and precision saws.

Can cutting fluid be used outside metallography?

Yes. It is used in petrographic sectioning and other precision cutting where cooling and lubrication protect the blade and workpiece.
