Yes. Polishers do not read labels. A grinder polisher spins a platen and dispenses liquid; it has no mechanism by which it could distinguish a Buehler suspension from anyone else's, and in our four decades supplying labs we have never encountered a customer whose equipment was damaged by, or whose warranty was affected by, using our consumables. What determines your results is the consumable itself: the particle size distribution of the abrasive, the diamond concentration, the carrier chemistry, and the consistency of all three from bottle to bottle. Get those right and the finish stands up side by side. Get them wrong and the brand on the label will not save you.
We sell compatible consumables, so weigh our motives as you read. We will try to earn the trust by being straight about both sides.
How the switch actually happens
There is a pattern we have watched repeat for years. A lab does not switch everything at once. It starts with one product, almost always the diamond suspension, because suspension is the highest volume recurring purchase and the easiest to test side by side. The lab runs our suspension against their OEM bottle on identical samples, finds the finish comparable and the invoice much smaller, and switches that one product. Then the floodgates open: SiC papers next, then polishing cloths, then pastes, then final polishing solutions, until eventually the whole consumables cabinet has turned over and the lab realizes the results hold up and the bill is much smaller. The savings typically run 20 to 40 percent against OEM pricing, and that range holds whether the lab uses a liter a year or ten gallons a month.

Particle size distribution is the heart of quality. A nominal 1 micron suspension should contain particles tightly clustered around 1 micron; a sloppy distribution with a tail of 3 and 5 micron particles will scratch at the 1 micron step, and this, not the absence of a famous logo, is what separates good abrasive from bad. Concentration is second: diamond content per liter drives removal rate, and a cut price suspension achieved by thinning the diamond is no bargain. Ask any supplier, including us, about their classification standards. A supplier who cannot hold that conversation is telling you something.
The honest case for OEM
If your lab operates under a validated procedure in a regulated industry, aerospace, medical devices, nuclear, and that procedure names a specific consumable, switching means requalification: side by side samples, documentation, sign off. The savings usually still justify it, but it is a project, not a swap, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. Likewise, if an OEM applications engineer solved a hard problem for you with a genuinely proprietary product, weigh that relationship fairly.
What does not hold up is the suggestion that third party consumables harm equipment or void warranties by themselves. A warranty covers the machine against defects; the liquid you drip on a cloth is not a machine part. The format compatibility of these consumables, same bottle formats, same dispenser viscosities, same cloth backings, exists precisely because the formats are industry standard.
How to switch without risk

Most labs that run this test switch, and then keep going down the consumables list. Some do not, and that is fine; the test is the point. Your equipment was a serious investment. Your consumables are a recurring decision, and it deserves evidence rather than habit.
